Kenyon came to Mill Creek Pottery for his first wood firing as part of his undergraduate degree program at . In order to receive his BFA he had to do an internship in the field. He contacted me after seeing some of my work at in Kansas City. His Internship was to come and participate in a firing of the small kiln, where he worked with Domonique Venzant (my apprentice at the time).

The internship lead to an apprenticeship of his own here. During that time we fired the anagama kiln twice and he organized a firing of the small kiln himself. Much of the focus of our work together was on learning to communicate in the language of clay, as well as learning how to load and fire functional pottery in wood kilns. Kenyon came from a program that only offered gas and electric firing, and during the last firing of the anagama I asked if he could imagine not firing with wood. I think he is hooked, but so am I.
